Ashwagandha
Ashwagandha for Men: Studied Doses vs a Gummy's Share
Ashwagandha is the best-studied herb on the Maxforce label, yet NIH reports studied doses of 240 to 1,250 mg of extract a day for stress, and the whole Maxforce blend weighs 82 mg. Ashwagandha is sixth of nine lines, so a gummy holds at most 20 mg of it, and likely far less.

The herb01
What is ashwagandha, and what is it studied for?
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is a shrub whose root is used in Ayurvedic medicine. In research it is mainly studied for stress, anxiety and sleep.
NIH says the doses studied for stress or anxiety ran from 240 to 1,250 mg a day of extract, with more benefit looking likely at 500 to 600 mg, and sleep trials used 120 to 600 mg a day (NIH ODS, Ashwagandha). Those are the numbers to hold in mind for what follows.
Maxforce lists "Ashwagandha Extract" in sixth place, just after the printed 5 mg of caffeine. The label does not say which part of the plant or what extract.
| Name on the label | Ashwagandha |
|---|---|
| What it is | Withania somnifera, an Ayurvedic shrub |
| Place on the label | 6 of 9 in the 82 mg proprietary blend |
| Amount per gummy | Not printed; at most 5 mg (listed after the 5 mg caffeine line) |
| Amount used in research | 240-1,250 mg a day of extract (stress and anxiety trials) |
| Strength of evidence | Modest, short-term data for stress and sleep; none for sexual function on the NIH page |
| Marketed or traditional use | Adaptogen |
| Main caution | Rare liver injury; thyroid effects; interacts with several drug classes; avoid in pregnancy. |
The dose math02
How much ashwagandha could a Maxforce gummy hold?
At most 20 mg, and likely a good deal less. That is a sliver of what the studies used.
The four lines after caffeine (ashwagandha, L-arginine, tribulus and horny goat weed) can hold at most 20 mg together, as the first five hold at least 62 mg of the 82 mg blend. If those four split evenly, ashwagandha would hold 5 mg. Even if it took the whole 20 mg, a gummy would be far below the lowest studied dose.
Taking extra gummies would not close the gap, and the label directs one gummy a day. Even ten gummies would sit under the lowest studied dose. We do not suggest taking more than the label says.
Evidence03
Does ashwagandha affect testosterone or sperm?
Limited evidence suggests it might, after two to four months of use, but that was with doses far above a gummy's (NCCIH, Ashwagandha).
| Question | Finding |
|---|---|
| Stress and anxiety | Studied; 240 to 1,250 mg extract a day (NIH ODS, Ashwagandha) |
| Sleep | 120 to 600 mg a day in trials (NIH ODS, Ashwagandha) |
| Testosterone and sperm quality | Limited evidence over 2 to 4 months (NCCIH, Ashwagandha) |
| Athletic performance, cognition, diabetes | Evidence insufficient (NCCIH, Ashwagandha) |
| Erectile function | Not covered in these summaries |
A change in a lab number is not the same as better erections. And the Maxforce makers do not claim a testosterone effect on the label, so we do not either.
Safety04
Is ashwagandha safe, and what are the liver warnings?
It appears well tolerated for up to about three months, but long-term safety is not known (NIH ODS, Ashwagandha). Liver injury is rare but real.
LiverTox, the NIH liver-injury database, rates ashwagandha a likely cause of liver injury, which usually starts 2 to 12 weeks after beginning the product, shows as jaundice and itching, and clears within 1 to 4 months of stopping in most cases. Rare fatal cases happened mainly in people with existing liver disease (LiverTox, Ashwagandha).
- Thyroid: possible effects on thyroid function; avoid with thyroid disorders (NIH ODS, Ashwagandha)(NCCIH, Ashwagandha).
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: avoid (NCCIH, Ashwagandha).
- Before surgery: avoid (NCCIH, Ashwagandha).
- Medicines: thyroid, diabetes, blood pressure, immunosuppressant, sedative and anti-seizure drugs (NCCIH, Ashwagandha).
- Prostate cancer: might not be safe in hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (NIH ODS, Ashwagandha).
Stop and call a doctor if you notice yellow skin or eyes, dark urine or itching.

What does this mean for a Maxforce buyer?
Ashwagandha on the label is real, but the gummy is not a studied dose.
Two points can both be true. The herb has a research base, and a sliver of it in a blend does not carry that base across. A shopper who sees "ashwagandha" and thinks "the stress-relief herb with trials" is borrowing credit the gummy has not earned.
The reverse is also useful. A small amount in a gummy probably carries less of the liver and thyroid risk than a full dose, but the label gives no figure, so we cannot confirm it. If you have liver disease, a thyroid condition or take thyroid medicine, ask a doctor before trying Maxforce. Our medicines guide shows how to bring the label to the visit.

What is the seventh ingredient in Maxforce?
L-arginine, an amino acid with the most direct link to blood flow, and the most important interaction warning on the label.
Read L-arginine next, or go back to green tea and caffeine. The ingredients overview lists all nine.
FAQ07
Maxforce questions people ask
How much ashwagandha is in Maxforce?
The label does not say. It lists Ashwagandha Extract sixth in an 82 mg blend, so a gummy holds at most 20 mg, and probably far less. Studies used 240 to 1,250 mg a day for stress.
Does ashwagandha cause liver problems?
Rarely. LiverTox rates it a likely cause of liver injury, usually starting 2 to 12 weeks after beginning and clearing within 1 to 4 months of stopping. Stop and call a doctor for jaundice, itching or dark urine.
Can men take ashwagandha long term?
Long-term safety is not known. NIH says it appears well tolerated for up to about three months. A bottle of Maxforce lasts 30 days at the label directions, so ask a doctor before repeated use.
Does ashwagandha interact with thyroid medicine?
It may. NIH names thyroid hormone drugs among possible interactions and notes possible effects on thyroid function. Tell your doctor before taking any supplement that contains it.
Is ashwagandha safe with blood pressure medicine?
NIH lists blood pressure drugs among possible interactions. Maxforce also holds L-arginine and caffeine, which can affect blood pressure, so a pharmacist should review the whole label.
Is ashwagandha the same as a testosterone treatment?
No. A limited body of research points to changes in lab values after months of higher doses. It is not a treatment, and the Maxforce label makes no such claim.
